How To: Sleep
September 2022 - July 2023
Behind The Scenes
Original Pitch Vertical Slice
How To: Sleep is an analogue horror inspired multi-media shortfilm. It was the last production I was apart of at University and the first as director. I originally was inspired by analogue horror shorts on youtube which combine the found footage aesthetic with CRT/VHS 80's styled TV commercials. I pitched in September of 2022 the idea of what if an advert teaching dummies the basic way to sleep gets corrupted and suddenly becomes a horror film. Unfortunately trying to explain this genre of film felt to me difficult to a board of members who have most likely not seen analogue horror; so above shown is the vertical slice I animated which I hoped would explain my idea visually. A weekend later, I was thrilled to hear that my film was one of 11 films picked out of over 40 to be selected as a third year production. The film is currently submitted to festival so I cannot show it as of the moment.
With my film selected, I knew I would need a team who was both committed, productive and enjoy working on the project. Cait Burnett (left) was chosen as my producer as she had originally worked on Sonder the year prior which won an award. I appointed George Tucker as Animation director and deputy director as I needed an animator lead in 2D as I was more focused on stop-motion.
